Learning, Challenges, and Growth
Stepping into the internship, both Kate and Sophia encountered a steep learning curve. Adjusting to new programs, understanding the operations of an NGO, and managing the diverse range of tasks were initially challenging.
Kate reflects, “It took some time to get used to everything, but once I did, it was incredibly rewarding. Learning to design and manage a website was a skill I’d always wanted to try, and now I can proudly add it to my résumé!”
Sophia adds, “From early on, we had the freedom to manage projects from start to finish. This hands-on approach allowed us to learn by doing, whether it was crafting a content strategy or executing it. It was both challenging and empowering.”
One standout moment for Kate was the Nikolaus event, a major milestone in her internship. “Organizing an event from start to finish pushed me out of my comfort zone,” Kate shares. “But by the end, I had learned so much about planning, problem-solving, and teamwork.”

A Heartfelt Experience
Beyond professional growth, the internship left a lasting emotional impact on both interns. Working with The M Story allowed them to connect with meaningful causes and contribute to real change.
“It’s been deeply moving to see how our work supports the communities in Guatemala,” Kate says. “Knowing that the content I created helps raise awareness and funds for these projects made every challenge worth it.”
Sophia, who had the opportunity to travel to Guatemala and experience the projects firsthand, describes it as life-changing: “Visiting Guatemala and meeting the people we support brought everything full circle. It deepened my understanding of the work we do and left me with memories I’ll cherish forever.”
